Database Architect — PostgreSQL & Cloud Native
Bivoxo is hiring a Database Architect. Design, optimize, and modernize the data infrastructure behind our clients' products — from schema design and query optimization to large-scale, zero-downtime cloud migrations.
Responsibilities:
- Design PostgreSQL schemas that hold up under real production load — not just clean ER diagrams, but systems that scale.
- Diagnose and fix slow queries, poor indexing, and architectural bottlenecks in existing client databases.
- Lead zero-downtime migrations — schema changes, cloud migrations, version upgrades — without breaking production for clients.
- Set data architecture standards (naming, indexing, partitioning, backup strategy) across every client engagement you touch.
- Work directly with full-stack engineers to make sure application code and database design actually fit each other.
- Evaluate when to reach for read replicas, caching layers, or managed services like AWS RDS — and when not to.
- Own data integrity and security across client systems, including backup and disaster-recovery planning.
Own the Data Layer Behind Real Client Products
This isn't a theoretical architecture role. You'll be in the query plans, in the migration scripts, and in the AWS console — solving real performance and scaling problems for products with real users and real data volume, not designing diagrams that never leave a whiteboard.
Requirements:
- 4+ years designing and optimizing PostgreSQL (or a similarly serious relational database) in production environments.
- Deep understanding of indexing, query optimization, normalization trade-offs, and schema design for scale.
- Hands-on experience with cloud database infrastructure (AWS RDS/Aurora preferred) and zero-downtime migrations.
- Comfortable working directly with backend engineers to co-design data models, not just handing down specs.
- Strong grasp of backup, replication, and disaster-recovery strategy.
- Clear communicator — you'll need to explain trade-offs to both engineers and clients.
- Bonus: experience with vector databases or pgvector for AI/RAG-powered applications.
